Default Tail Pipe Extension Idea.

Hey, I'm looking for comments on an idea I have.

Since I have decided to keep my original exhaust for a little while, I have an opportunity.

When I cut off my CAT and connect up my new TOG headers, I will have to make up an offroad pipe to fit in place of the CAT. That means that I now have the option of varying the length and this can affect how much the tail pipe horns stick out the backend.

Now the OEM look has them tucked back under the bumper a fair bit.
How would it look if I had them protruding a little bit more. Not extreme but just a couple of inches :?:

The whole exhaust is off sitting on blocks under the car right now so I will experiment by sliding it back and forth to see what it looks like.
When I was under fitting the headers, I had to slide it way back about a foot and the horns were showing real proud. They actually look better when you can see more of them.

Opinions :?: :?: :?:

Sounds like a good idea, did you take any pics for reference?

i wouldn't stick em out too far. i know at school i've "accidently" stepped and bent a couple ricers fart cans because they were sticking out too far.

I would definately slide the exhaust back an inch or two. I know when I cut the cat off of my STE I moved the exhuast back about 2 inches so the tips weren't tucked under the bumper anymore, and IMO it looks MUCH better. When we had the headers installed on the GTP, they did the same thing, and I think it looks better on that car also. The stock tips are definately tucked under the rear bumper too far, I know I would slide it out some if I had the oppourtunity.

Here'* a pic of them lowered onto blocks.
I think I will take dbtk2'* advice and extend them about 2".....not enough for anyone to get a good foot hold on but enough to make them look coooooool.

Code:
Look at the profile shot in my profile and you can see one.
I obviously will be limited by the hanger travel and need to leave enough room for exhaust pipe expansion when heated. It will expand about 1/2" - 3/4" more hot than when cold.

I think it would good with just enough tip not to see the muffler itself, about an inch?

When its raised up to the car you shouldn't be able to see the muffler. If you can, it won't be much.

i wouldnt take it past the trailing edge of the bumper. You want people to notice it, but you dont want it to take away from the rest of the car. A kid at school put chrome tips on his car, they stick out like 2 inches and look really gaudy, like they dont belong (but he drives a Dodge Avenger, so they dont).
