Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but here goess.....

I just got some used SSE taillights for my '95 SE. I had to replace the passenger side taillight, but the only non SSE Bonnevilles they had at the junkyard were '96 and up. So I settled for a complete set of '94 SSE taillights that were a little rough, but, I only paid $40 for all 4 pieces.

They were full of water, and the inside of the tillights are a bit dirty.

My question is, what is the easiest way to take these taillights apart? I can see how they come apart, but, I'm afraid I'm going to break them.

I want to take them apart and clean them up, and reseal them when I put them back together.

Any suggestions?

My suggestion is don't take them apart.

Put some uncooked rice (about 1/8 cup) in each hole, add some soap and water, and swirly shaky.

The rice will break up the deposits. Soaking may help.

If you still decide to take them apart, they come apart easy enough, i didn't break them. They are sealed with tar strip, and you'll have to decide what type of sealant to replace it with. I used strip caulk that we use to build grain bins. The black stuff is the original tar. Others just use silicone.

I'll probably try to take them apart and reseal them. My brother used to work at Guide here in Anderson (before they closed the doors), so I'm sure he can help me out, since he used to make them.
