Default Video card chat

I don't want to start this off with too much of me because I first want to see what you guys have to say. My aim in this "chat" is to figure out which video card would be the best type. If it comes down to Crossfire VS SLI, the chipset depends on the card and has no price influence, so it can be either. How do the cards in my list (and others you present) compare to a 640MB 8800GTS? Also, please bring up other points aside from 8800 comparisons. What is your favorite video card review site? I appreciate all input. Thanks a lot!

Here'* the list:
• Radeon 3850 256MB
• Radeon 3850 512MB
• Radeon 3850 Crossfire (2 × 256MB)
• Radeon 3850 Crossfire (2 × 512MB)
• nVidia GeForce 8800GT 512MB
• nVidia GeForce 8800GT SLI (2 × 512MB)
• nVidia GeForce 8800GTS 320MB
• nVidia GeForce 8800GTS 512MB
• nVidia GeForce 8800GTS 640MB
• nVidia GeForce 8800GTS SLI (2 × 320MB)
• nVidia GeForce 8800GTS SLI (2 × 512MB)
• nVidia GeForce 8800GTS SLI (2 × 640MB)

Enjoy, and thanks!

First off stay away from radeon. They change their cards so bloody often. It makes me wonder what they keep screwing up. Plus most games are based off the Nvidea cards to begin with.

I'm thinking the exact same thing. It'* also pretty cool how two $200 Radeon 3850s in Crossfire tie, +/- 20%, an 8800GTS 512MB. What I've seen from nVidia is a lot of changes so that the newer 8800 core makes the GT faster than the old GTS, the new GTS just as fast as the GTX, and not that much to compete with the 3850 256MB video card.

On the other hand, the Radeon series now seem to have come around nicely. They show support for DirectX 10.1 instead of "just" 10, so I want to see what nVidia'* next cards support to gauge whether the 8800s will be good DX10 cards or not. I remember that the FX5000 series cards had pretty bad DX9 support, but then the 6000 series did better than ATI supporting Pixel Shader 3.0.

It'* an on/off thing. But I do agree with you that nVidia stays consistent with their offerings whereas ATI doesn't yet have much to compete with the high end. They did, however, come first to market with a GDDR4 video card. That'* pretty interesting.

now you just need the stand alone power supply for the video cards. When the p.*. is shut off the video cards take power from the computers main power supply. But when the alternate p.*. is turned on the video cards have their own power so the main p.*. for the computer can send more power to other items on your computer.

rofl. you know you have too much card when you need a stand-alone PS to run them...

i have a 7900gs, I reflashed the BIOS and overclocked and overvolted it to GTX speeds

yes thunderhand that was for you. Or anyone that wants a power gain on their video cards.

I don't like to overclock, cause if anything happens to the system it isn't covered under warranty.
