hey all!

i'm wondering if there is a fast way to disconnect the factory alarm in my 89 sse? its been fine till the last few days when it seems to have developed an intermittent short. it will just go off at odd times. at first i wondered if someone was monkeying with the car as it mostly happened at night but the other day when it was cool, it did it a couple times during the day which made me realize the colder weather was triggering it.

i'm not that worried about having an alarm in the car, more about my neighbours in the apt building lynching me if it goes off again at night as i park facing the building so they get a wonderful view of the lights flashing on and off and i'm not the fastest to wake up at 3 in the morning!

yes i know if i lock it with the key it will not set the alarm, but i also know my memory and i'm not wanting to
a) **** anybody off more than i have already and
b) so far its just been cold but there is snow coming and i don't want to be out there in january in just my shorts and slippers!

i read the owners manual and there doesn't seem to be a specific fuse to disable it. any thoughts without taking it to my garage and telling them to dismantle the car?

On my 91, there are two in-line fuses (15A, IIRC) for the alarm system. Pulling the correct fuse will disable the alarm system. If you search this section of the forum, you should be able to find the past notes.

just a note of thanks for the instructions re the alarm system. did it today and it worked fine. no alarm but everything else works fine.

i'm very glad to belong to this club and i'm sure my neighbours are too!

so your telling me anyone could pull 2 fuses to stop an alarm system after stealing a car?.. that dont seem very smart

it was a little more than disconnecting a couple of fuses. sorry if i caused some confusion! if you go back to page 7 in this forum, july 3, 2006 under the heading "factory security" you'll see the instructions i used.

basically it was how to disconnect the relay under the dash. i imagine if you were talented and supersmart( neither of which i qualify under ) you could do it in a matter of minutes. it took about 1/2 an hour with the instructions i had.

i didn't want to start disconnecting fuses in case i disabled something else. with these instructions everything else still worked after.

Holy crap Bill, you did it the hard, and very dedicated way. You can click search in the upper right corner of the screen and get there a lot faster.

well i guess that'* how you live and learn. it was still some interesting reading. i found a couple of answers to questions i hadn't even thought of asking yet and that'* always a help. i do thank you for the tip tho. i'm sure i'll have need to use it in the future. as i've said before, after waiting all these years to get this car off my aunt i fully intend to run a competition to see which lasts longer....me or the car!
