I have a 1995 Pontiac Bonneville SLE that is in really good shape. I went to the local upholstery shop to get an estimate on my headliner since it'* falling in certain spots...low and behold they show me that certain spots are a bit moist, and that it'* probably the sunroof leaking from the drain holes being clogged.

Anyway, point being I got a total $500 estimate for everything all said and done, new upholstery on the visors, headliner, and sunroof shade, and drains cleaned out, gaskets renewed with some "steaming" process....anyone have any experience in any of this, is this a good price, what other problems could cause interior moisture (cause its not really leaking..yet)etc etc

You need another reference. There'* really no way to judge cost unless you get another estimate from another shop. My .02. Good luck with it. : )

Several of us have replaced headliners. I replaced mine, the visor covers and sunroof gasket by myself. A local shop here charges about $250 + materials (about another $40) for the headliner alone so doing the whole thing including fixing what probably started the problem in the first place for $500 sounds OK. Just slightly more than I would think. There is the convenience factor though... drop it off, pick it up all new-like.

Wow those are really nice visors!!! Too bad I don't have an SSEI :? lol...My visors have that pocket built into them which i was told I would lose also during this process of all new upholstery...not that I care anyone else have some thoughts?

That'* one of the reasons for doing the embroidery. I didn't feel that I could sucessfully sew in the pockets and without them thought it would be a little plain.

If you have time, you can also wait and check junkyards. I just got a set of perfect grey visors for my car with out pockets for $2 for the set. My headliner is out cause of a similar leak, which was just the drain which had come disconnected. I put some epoxy on it, reinstalled and have been good since.

Headliner is a pain to get in and out, but can be done following the other'* examples.

Line randman said, it seems slightly high, but still reasonable and you won't have to worry about it yourself.

My mother had her headliner and visors redone for about $200.00, she has a 1992 Olds 88 Royale. This was a very small shop though and she does not have a sunroof. Still $500.00 does sound a tad bit expensive. I would see if they have any kind of written guarantee and get at least two more estimates.

I agree with the others that $500 is above average for a pro job. But that does cover a lot of labor that you would otherwise have to do yourself. If your sunroof is aftermarket though, $500 could be a fair estimate.

Is the headliner just falling, or is the material in bad shape? I don't know how these newer headliners are constructed, but my dad and I redid mine on an '84 Thunderbird back in the day. All it was is a piece of cardboard and the cloth. I can't recall if there was any foam. We just got some adhesive (probably was specifically for headliners), and reglued it. It was a bit of a pain getting it on there properly without bubbles or creases, but not too bad.
