Hey guys

I was chatting with a person, he/she shall not be named for protection. I was telling he/she that my plan of getting rockers could come to fruition sooner than I thought. I said "Do I really need a custom PCM or a INTENSE PCM", he/she then responded that INTENSE PCMS are JUNK, they cause damage to the pistons, a lot of them. I said "Wow, never heard of this" I asked for proof, he/she said "on club gp" He/she then suggested DHP. and then I asked he/she if I was required to run mid or premium if I got a PCM and rockers.

So my questions are these:
1. Is INTENSE PCMS junk? Do they really cause damage? (I'll check Club GP)
2. Do I need an aftermarket PCM for 1.8 rockers?
3. Do I need to run 87 89 or 92/93 if I get rockers and a PCM?

It seems like there'* been a lot of happy people with Intense PCMs on this site and I doubt they could stay in business if they wrecked motors. N/A'* only need premium if they select the option to get their timing advanced at WOT I believe.
You don't need an aftermarket PCM for 1.8s, but getting later shift points and reducing other restrictions could help get the rockers' full benefits.

The whole deal was that soposidly Intense pcms poped pistins in 04+ cars due to too much timing. If thats really true? I have no idea. Obiouslt many people are happy with thier pcms on this site so I wouldn't worry.
If you do get a pcm you should get one that is specifically programmed for 1.8s. (I'm kinda doubting there is one) You don't really need a pcm because you have rockers. It will add power for sure. But it won't be as good as a pcm made for your setup.
It'* possible. Get a scan tool and see if you get knock.

Never EVER believe anything you read about INTENSE products on CGP. They are so slanted and biased towards ZZP/DHP that you will never get a fair comparison. This is a well-known fact proven over and over.

DHP/ZZP don't really have much interest in the Bonneville market.

Cars 1, 2, 5, 6, 8, 9, 11, and 12 have at one time or are currently running INTENSE PCM'*. That quote from CGP above is hilarious if you know the history of the battle amongst the CGP members regarding the two vendors being compared here.

INTENSE specializes in Bonnevilles. The PCM'* are actually quite different in many respects when comparing Bonnevilles to GP'*. INTENSE has a very good reputation that they have earned on our Forum for a reason. And we've only seen ONE popped piston, which was probably damaged BEFORE PCM installation (car 11 on the list).

Fuel you do know that Club GP is OWNED and ran by ZZP.....do you think that they are gonna say bad things about there stuff????

and Intense is the only company that SPECALIZES the PCM for the particular car that its going in, the DHP and the ZZP just write a file and call it a day, where as Intense actually code the VIN into the PCM, and they adjust the Bonneville Bin files

Okay great thanks, I wasn't sure what to believe. Boosty gave me the most important advice a month or two after I joined that is to ask if you're not sure to what to believe. So I had to post so I know what to believe, so thanks guys.

To address why this thread was started, it'* related to 04+ GP PCMs. Some thought the initial one was rushed to the market, and all 04 PCM'* seem to be fine now. No one to my knowledge has blown a piston while running an intense PCM in any Bonneville, and they've had some experience now under their belt.

There are many things going on, on both ends of this. I'm not choosing sides, as I have no support for either vendor. There are plenty of people on the intense forum and CGP. I'm not arguing politics about that place either, they all need to get over themselves. :P
