Ok so if any of you know my car.... It is a POS only because ever since i started modding it ithas gone downhill. I have had trouble with the tranny and engine got both replaced. The engine was recently rebuilt and then i had the car for about a day and it started knocking again. It is now back in shop and the mechanic is saying that it is the harmonic balancer. I am not very engine savy so what exactly is that and what does it effect? Also could that cause such severe problems? Thx in advance

it is the crank pulley.. the biggest one down on the bottom that runs both belts



it is made of rubber and acts as a dampener, they can tear

If one of these was on it way out would that effect performance greatly? timing even?

i had the rubber fall out of one once and it sounded like a rod knock. it'* two pieces the inner has a counter wheight that makes a pretty big racket just slopin awound in there

Werid because me and bill have been trying to figure out why my car has had a lack of performance ever since day 1. I can not spin the tires..... lol weird way of putting a performance metric but i cant and evenwith the mods i can only do it on a cold start lol

Jay... Those of us that know your car, realize it deserves a lot of TLC from you.

Please don't think this is bashing, merely informing newer members so they are not afraid to mod because of you saying how once you started modding your car went downhill.

Whenever beginning to mod a car, all normal maintenance and preventative maintenance items should be up to snuff. Over 20,000 miles on an oil change makes your last motor the trooper of the century in my book. Your struts were nonexistant as far as I could tell. I believe we are aware your car needed a couple of things when you began modding.

A harmonic balancer controls timing etc and will cause many issues. Get it fixed..then see how the car reacts.

Yeah bill sorry if i worded it like that. I meant to say my car was not performing like it should have before modding meaning that obviously it would not perform so well after haha. yeah my shocks are suffering. The death of my motor was from the tranny tho me and my mechanic have come to that conclusion.

The interruptor rings are attached to the part of the pulley that attaches to the crank itself, and should not affect performance or drivability, other than the annoying clatter.

Bill..since the bad balancer can cause so much vibration as to hit the rings to the sensor in cases... couldn't it throw timing off slightly? My thoughts are that it could..
