Default Satellite TV and a 2005 GXP

Here is a strange one. I visit my parents on occasion and they always seem to have problems with reception on thier satellite tv (Dish Network). "Local" channels seem to be the most affected. How is this car related? Let me explain and no I am not going insane. I have comfirmed that it is my 2005 GXP that is doing it. Took awhile to figure out it was the car.

When it first started happening we cut trees from a hill side that we though may have been causing the problem. No luck. Checked all the cables, boxes, etc. Still no luck. I make my living with computers and electronics so you would think I could figure it out. No liuck until one time my mother made the comment that it only seems to happen when I visit. Strange, but it gave me an idea. I had my son take the car to town to pick up something and we checked the satellite while he was gone. IT WORKED. He came back and parked the car in front of the house and the satellite lost signal again. Now I park the car in a metal garage about 50 yards from the house and they never have a problem with the tv. btw, Never had the problem with my 2003 SLE.

I was wondering if anyone else has noticed this happening.

Default OnStar

My 2004 SLE had OnStar also and I do not remember it causing a problem. I am pretty sure that it only started after I got the 2005 GXP.

The Onstar from 2004 to 2005 is different... my 2004 GXP has an older analog tx Onstar and the 2005 was supposed to have the newer digital tx system.

My folk'* microwave oven effects their dish network system. you can tell some one is using the microwave when the screen goes to no signal status.
