Before I bought my 97, I checked the recall list. Seems there has only been one recall relating to the flamability of the sea material. Side note: not sure if that refers to leather or cloth. If leather, can I simply get an new seat cover installed?

I was suprised as it seems every other car I looked up had pages of them. What gives?

I called Pontiac when I got my 95 and asked the same... very few recalls are probably because they haven't admitted to any problems with the car.

Think about it. The composite intake and the low quality lower intake gaskets...not a recall.

yeah they intake failure problem is INCREDIBLY common and they still never recalled, any mechanic ive ever talked to about the upper intake replies with " oh my gooood, ive done so many of those i know em by heart"....

and on a sidenote they intake doesnt fail simply because its composite material, it fails because of the design flaw of the EGR, there are many many cars out there with composite intakes that do not have this problem, its because of the design flaw, not because its plastic.

I am biased now but the CCR struts should be a recall. I mean come on failure before 50,000 miles and a parts cost of roughly $1,200 not including labor to replace. At that price a person is forced to convert to a close-to-standard strut set up which is silly to me. It'* to bad, I could have gotten a perfect exterior, mediocre interior 40th ann SSEi with 135k miles for a song. It had every option except the CCR.

What can we tell you. Even if they were replaced before the car'* 3/36,000 was up they'd probably still be bad now.

My 97 struts work great...and I keep my fingers crossed. I had my hands on a spare pair off Randy'* 97 and the (BLEEEEEP) at the body shop threw them out along with Randy'* 90 front bumper and FE2 springs. FE2 springs...(BLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP)

Yea the CCR is a total waste of time, we just got a '92 seville into the shop with both of them totally trash, but with the caddi'* it'* nice because you can reprogram the computer so it thinks the car was never equipped with CCR in the first place, in turn not lighting the "service ride control" light. Unfortunately the bonne'* don't have this but you see what i'm getting at. Total waste of time and money on GM'* part, but it'* not the first time (see: cadillac cimmaron, V8-6-4, 350 diesel, quad 4 engine)

You do realize that ONLY safety issues are recalled.......not mechanical (engine) issues.

I guess the only way the defects we all talk about would be covered is if GM thought they would lead to a claim of liability. I guess we should all look at trading in for Hyundais with their 10 year 10k mile warranty. As for the CCR, to me this would be no big deal if somebody would have produce them in the aftermarket. For instance the dealer quoted me like $230 for replacement standard struts per strut w/o install when they are in the $70 range aftermarket.

I always feel so ripped off if I am ever forced to do business with a dealer for anything where OEM is the only choice.

I got a recall notice on my '98 for the fuel pressure regulator. Anyone else have this? I haven't had it done yet, but haven't experienced any problems with fuel pressure.
