i was driving my sick father today, and as usal i don´t wear the seat belt (bad habit born from working in the car busnies always getting out and in of cars)
When i´m passing a bus parked at the busstop with open doors.
As i pass the buss it closes the doors and turn right out on me, forcing me out into oncoming traffic.
Had i hit the brakes id been toast, had i kept my speed i´d be ecually done.
So i hit the throttle out into oncoming trafic and overtakes the bus and pulls back in to my lane, just before i would have hit the car coming towards me.

If i would be driving a car with less low-end torque i would be in a hospital now or worse...

Lesson learned: Don´t forget the seat-belt, and never drive a slow car

I've had some close calls myself. Good thing I was wearing my seat belt when I rolled my Bonne.

Did it downshift/kick down to a lower gear? If so it wasn't Tq that saved you. Really sucks though when you have to do something like that to avoid an idiot.

Also not everyone things accelerating to avoid an accident is an option. Nailing the brakes instantly is the driving public'* first reaction, nice work!

yep, them there seatbelts have pulled me through 2 wrecks. a flip and the bonnie wreck. i kinda feel naked without it. tempo drives me crazy because the seatbelt buckle keeps coming apart.

yes, always wearing the seatbelt is good....its like 2nd nature for me to put it on when i get in the car...

..but that reminds something that happened to me about a week ago when i was driving...my friend & i were at this {bad} intersection where u can hardly see 50ft around the corner....so i stop, look right, look left, look right, look left again.....start going, look left again....... and boom huge dump truck comes flying around the corner.....i'll admit i did hit the brakes first {since i wasn't too far out into the intersection and hoped that the truck would swerve around} but then i figured i wasn't gonna let some fool that was speeding already determine my fate. So I hit the gas like i never hit it b4 {well i have hit it like that before..but u know lol} tires skeeted a lil' bit, but then traction control kicked in...we were thrown back into our seats and before we knew it we had spun around the truck and into the direction we needed to be going...

i was at first shocked, and then thrilled at the power {i knew i couldn't have done that in my dad'* old 93 SSE} and seconds later my friend kindly put on her seatbelt and we laughed off the whole situation...

ha ha. you will know what the torque number means after you test drive a L67 car for sure. I had no idea when I punched the gas first time I drove a SSEi. Hooked for life but god**** not paying twice the bluebook. Still on the everlasting search.

when I test drove the SSEi with my mom in the passenger seat she really liked it. until I gassed it out of a turn and threw her into the passenger side door.
i wasn't entirely used to it at first especially from driving a 86 lesabre before... but now i love the feel of being able to get around people quickly and being put back into the seat sometimes.

my mom drove my Buick a few weeks back, and when she came back, she said "wow you really gotta watch pressing that gas pedal!" I guess the front tires did a little squeelin for her LOL

I had the same little surprise when I test drove my SSEi .Got into the throttle a little too fast and the lousy tires they had on it just gave up and smoked instantly!
Put some good tires on it and it was a lot more controllable, but that torque still made itself felt!
It'* even more surprising when you get in a car like my PA. It'* probably the stodgiest car on the road, but when you step on it, it smokes 'em like a hibachi!

Hans, if you're looking for an L67 car, and don't mind not having a Bonneville or GP, try finding a LeSabre Ultra, or a Park Avenue Ultra. The resale value on these cars is crap, so you can pick up one in good shape with low miles for fairly cheap. I paid $7,600 with tax for my PA Ultra with only 87,000 miles on it. Same year Bonneville SSEi would cost about the same, but would have had many more miles, and been in worse condition.
It'* not quite as fast as the SSEi and isn't as aggressive-looking, but the sleeper value is way higher, and the creature comforts are unbelieveable.
