I just bought my winter beater today. Its a '90 Olds Cutlass Calais "Quad 442" 5 Speed. It has the HO Quad 4 making 180hp/165ft.lbs. The car is far from slow due to its lightweight, they are supposed to be high 14 second cars stock, I would say this is a mid 15 second car, which with 184k miles is about right, however to access any of that power you do have to wind the thing out all the way to its 7k redline. It has basically no power at all under 5k. Well anyways, I am looking for performance parts for it (nothing major, just an air intake, ported tb, little stuff like that), and I can't seem to find anything that isn't like cams or something. Do any of you know where this stuff can be found? If not no big deal, I just can't find anything and figured this was worth a shot.

I've had it all on both of my old ones, but it was catalog stuff before alot was available on the net.

At the time, GM had a whole section dedicated to the Quad4 in their performance parts catalog. The section was titled 'rocket parts' for the Quad4.

They raced these things on the track for a few years. They are quick. I had the HO mated with a 5-speed on one of them. The other was a GA with the auto.

Thanks, nothing there thats really what I"m looking for price wise, but definatley lots of good stuff. I appreciated it. I searched some more and found a few things, but nothing is exactly what I"m looking for. I think I'm probably just gonna leave it alone, its plenty quick for a winter beater I guess.

I figure for a $250 car, I can't really lose. I had to put an exhaust on it ($230 from the cat back for new pipe, hangers, muffler, and tips), and it needs front brake pads ($12), and also the rear-view mirror needs to be put back on the winshield ($3 for the glue kit to fix that). I also had to put about 3/4 quart of oil in it ($2), as well as some washer fluid.($1.29) So right now I have a little under $500 into it. But for a car I can drive everyday and not have to worry about putting premium gas in it (although its recommended with the HO Quad), not have to worry about only averaging 14mpg, not have to worry about my STE rusting even more, not have to worry about my wimpy tranny going again, and not have to worry about the brake master cylinder problems I have been having with it. Really its just to save the STE and save on gas money. I figure I 'll just sell the Olds in the Spring for a few hundred bucks and it would've saved me a lot of hassle due to all the maintenance my STE requires.

Quad 4'* are complete crap. They need new head gaskets like every 5 minutes...Chevy has them in the Beretta GTZ and a very very few in the Z26'*...I would personally stay away from the Quads...we had to replace one in an Acheiva...WORST thing ever plus they are expensive....

Everyone has their own opinion. I've heard this before and agreed with it for a while, until I actually did some reasearch on the engine. Every car is gonna have some problems. Some people say the L67 is crap. I appreciate your insight, but I'm not really worried, if the engine dies I'll throw the car away. Its a winter beater and it was cheap enough that if it quit today I wouldn't really be losing much.

I've got a buddy in the whole Beretta online groupies and the Quad 4 has impressed me from time to time. I've seen them run 13'*, which is nothing to laugh at. I would direct you to the Beretta forums, but it seems no one is getting along there lately and rumor has it that its all falling apart. :?

I put 75,000 miles on two different Quads (and you know how I drive) and never ate a single gasket. The only problems I had (one on each car) was a bad injector on one, and a bad EGR valve on the other.

Both cars served me well, and are impressive for 4 cylinders. Very impressive. The Quad4 was the fore-runner to the Aurora/Northstar family of engines.

Are all of the Beretta 4 cyls with a manual trannsmission HO?
