Transmission Pressure control switch failure <- can i fix
99 Bonneville, 52,328
Transmission shudders during passing or hard acceleration.
Took it to dealer.
Diagnoses was: Transmission Pressure control switch failure, Fluid burnt.
Recommend replace switch and service transmission.
Mechanic said it hadn't thrown a code yet, but it will and when it does it will be a P0 1810.
Basically, i know i will have to change fluid and filter and gasket. Is replacing this switch something the average garage mechanic can do? I have replaced clutches and trannys before, but never ventured inside the transmission.
Thanks for your help?

A very warm welcome from me, and on everyone'* behalf! You'll love it here.
Heh, its a pretty long and pretty difficult process. You need to remove the the transmission side cover off to get to it, and to remove the side cover alot of stuff needs to come off to get that cover off. I wouldnt recommend doing it unless you have really good mechanical background, especially with the case side off there is ALOT of things to screw up.
Shop time is 3.5 hours and the switch is $55.02 so your looking at around $200-250 depending on shop rates.
