I think i've seen this topic here before but couldn't find it. I was driving along when i heard a pop then the Check Gas Cap code 61 showed up on my computer. I checked it then hit reset. Now when ever i start up the car it comes on again. I went bought a new cap tried it but same thing happens. Any idea whats wrong?

Ithink it ended up that it only happens when you "Top Off" and fill the tank that last little bit. Are you doing that?

Also it takes something like 30 engine starts before its all clear. Dont overfill and always tighten the cap.

Yeah i did top it off the day before this happened, because gas was about to rise to 85 cents a Litre I don't normally top it right off, but at these prices she'* gonna take as much as she can handle I will let you know if it stops after starting the car 30 or so times

That is not always the issue. My tank is a little over 1/4 tank and i have been getting the "Check Gas Cap". I am beginning to think it is a faulty sensor because it is an intermittent problem.

If you replaced your cap, you might try resetting your pcm. unplug the neg bat cable for an hour. If you replaced the cap and your still getting the SES you need to get it scanned. There are a bunch of things with the evap system that could be wrong.

The pump stops for a reason. Squirting in a few more ounces for a few pennies?
