I was zoned out at work today, systematicaly inspecting and packing hundreds of plastic lenses which will someday end up inside a Toyota (which Toyota, I'm not entirely sure, could even be a Lexus), when I had an idea for a great car. I have no money, so this is just an idle thought. With that in mind, here'* the idea:

I think it would be cool to find an old Chevette in excellent condition, and replace the drivetrain with a SC 3800 and either a 5-speed or a modern OD automatic (my thought wasn't specific about that, and I can see the pros and cons to both). But here is where I question the possibility of such a conversion. Can a RWD 3800 block be rebuilt with the FWD SC 3800'* internals and, of course externals?

Anyway, my thought process here was that the chevette is a small, light, simple, RWD car. And since the SC 3800 makes lots of power from a relatively compact, efficient package, the car could still handle decent (well, decent in comparison to a chevette with a small block v8 conversion at least). I don't have any numbers here, but I would think that a chevette would be far lighter than a bonneville or GP, and the RWD might hook up better. I think it could be a quick little combination.

Chevette? IMHO that would look kinda...well...strange. The Chevy Monza/Sunbird from the late 70'* looks a little better, but thats just my opinion

Having said that...some Firebirds and Camaros from the early 90'* has 3.8'* aka 3800'*, like your post says RWD lol. Other than that I dont know about the fit but one of the more learned people here would know

Well, there have been 3800'* in Fieros. Those are small cars. I'm sure it can be done in a Chevette.

Yeah, that'* what I'm referring to, the mid-late 90'* f-body 3800. Only built up with SC 3800 pieces. And in a Chevette.

Sure, a vega or something would work too. I just like the sleeper factor. Chevettes look slow.
