Default Torque Management IN ACTION!

For some reason I couldn't get the link to this to post and direct you correctly so I'll just repost it here. I found this:

This snippet is about 700 frames, or approx. 7 seconds.

Starting from left, with about 2% to 100% throttle (floored!), you can see the transmission downshift into first, as RPM and VSS start to climb. Then as PCM calls for tranny to upshift into second, note the spark advance - it goes from the +25 range to -5 for a FRACTION of a second as the tranny shifts, as indicated by the RPM drop. Also note the (insignificant) 0.4 of KR.

Those who think TM is a major ET limiter or HP killer, can see why it'* not that big of a factor, and why leaving it alone, if modifying your PCM program, is a good idea for the life of the car.

Now if you have substantially modified the drivetrain.....

Ok me again. You can see what is being talked about, its the sharp dip you notice. Its really very short. Interesting to actually see it happen.

I don't quite know what those readings show, but the way you explain it, it seems like the GM engineers did the right thing with the drivetrain.

I ran the car w/o the traction control the other day in slippery road conditions, I didnt like it. Too much unnecessary load on the tranny. Keep it unless you are gonna race on ideal road conditions. We keep ours on all the time on the '97 and still have the original tranny. The most we have done is a fluid flush I think.

OK, now I don't know about the pre-96'*, but I know on the Series II'*, or at least the 00+ SSEi'* the timing pulled on the shifts is the part of the torque management nobody cares about. On the newer cars, it will pull timing at higher rpms when it sees that the engine is making too much power. So after a certain point, the car will just stop making more power. The people that are really noticing this is the '04 GTP owners. They don't have aftermarket PCM'* available, and no matter what they do for mods none of them can run quicker than 13.5 because the PCM won't let them. Pulling timing at the shifts can hardly even be called torque managment compared to what the stock PCM'* do when the tranny isn't shifting. In our SSEi it will give the car up to 10 degrees of KR when the knock sensor count is 0, meaning the PCM is pulling timing when the engine isn't getting any knock. So, there is a problem with this.

Torque Management isn't the same as traction control guys!
