What are the symtoms if your fuel pump is going bad? I have this guy as a mechanic and I don't feel comfortable to give my money away that easy....

Common problems are hard starting and stalling. Gotta have the pressure for injectors

Basically when I start driving, once I am accelerating it hessitates (jerks) like not getting fuel into the injectors or something, the mechanic he said he would recomend getting a new fuel filter to start and then go from there, the part I didn't like was go from there...

Since its my daily driver and I depend on it I want it done right and not second guessing.

Get the fuel filter replaced by someone you trust or by a reputable garage.The fuel filter is pretty cheap to replace and could be the cause of the problem.

Try Replacing the spark plugs first. That was the problem for me had kinda the same symptoms.

always start with some fuel injector cleaner. if it doesnt fix the problem i'd relace the injectors and fuel filter. if you plan on keeping the car you could always treat her good and get some aeromotive fuel pump, filter, regulator and get accel injectors. that would be cool. i'll do it someday!

Fuel injector cleaner sucks. Doesnt work for crap ESPECIALLY on a ailing engine.
Also, replacing the injectors??????? How did you come to this conclusion.

salserin69. If you dont feel comfortable. Take it to a DEALER!!!! It will get fixed right. It may cost $300 but you are assured that its fixed. FAR cheaper than just replacing things at random. It is IMPOSSIBLE to diagnosis the car over the internet. At best we can only give an educated guess. If a mechanic say...."well go from there" RUN, RUN fast & far!

Thanks, I just had a full tune up done 3weeks ago and this problem started this week, they asked me when was the last time the fuel filter was changed but I didn't know since I got my bonny 8 months ago....it was from a friend in the family...so they recomended to change soon, I guess soon is now... I was thinking it could be a spark plug wire loose but I ruled that out yesterday so its to the fuel filter....Thanks

LS1'edSSE is right, we can not accurately diagnose a problem over the internet, however, the symptoms are very much like that of poor spark. You mentioned that you had a full tune-up three weeks ago, did that include the spark plug wires? It it didn't, you need to consider how many mile you have on the car. If it is 80,000 or more with the original or unknown spark plug wires, change them. I recommend Taylor 8 Spiro Pros (available from ADTR).

If the wires are okay, test the voltage output of the coil packs. It one of them is bad, replace it.

As for the fuel system, you can have the fuel pressure tested at the fuel injector rail. A competent mechanic would do this as part of the diagnostic BEFORE replacing anything in the fuel system.

It wouldn't hurt to pull codes as well. The diagnostic on these Bonnevilles will tell you whether it is spark related or fuel related or computer related.
