Default 2003 saturn vue=ecm?

Just bought th=it ran fine -a few miles-died -just like ign. key turned off! This has happened several times. NO CODES ! EVER! I changed the Crankshaft sensor- Still same problem as before. Most always will restart very soon! yet 1-2 times had to leave car & return -started fine -then same again!! Now -Today I installed a ecm =engine computer. I evidently am somewhat uninformed on the new computers needs??? Seems it must be reprogrammed?? so other than an EXPENSIVE Dealer- who likely can do this? I just do not understand why these ecm'* cant be installed & the car starts as should? Thanx
