91 pontiac bonneville won’t start after cam pos. Sensor
So I was getting several codes in my 91 bonneville one being 41. Car ran fine but service engine soon light kept coming on. I changed oil and replaced cam positioning sensor cleared codes. Started car light came on solid. Ram crappy. I drove to store to see if it was resetting everything got stranded. Car won’t start! Smells like gas! My next thought is that the crank position sensor is bad. Also I am getting no spark. Weird the car ran fine prior to replacing cam position sensor. Other thought pigtail might be bad on one of sensors. Question being had anyone had this happen before and did they remedy it. Car has about 186,000 and ran very well.

What brand cam sensor? What are the other codes? How did you test for spark? I have the factory info but we will need to do some basic testing to narrow down the area of interest.

Cam sensor
Ac/Delco sensor is what I put in. Other codes were 27, 28, 29, 31. I cleared codes and drove car and 41 popped back up. I tested it by pulling plug and grounding above threads to a bolt that was grounded and I smelled gas but car wouldn’t start which is a pretty good indication. That car ran fine before I replaced that sensor.

I'd put the old sensor back in and see what you get. The test you did for spark is useless.

Sensor
I did put the old one back in. Now car won’t start. What do you mean it’s useless. How would you check for spark? The car smells like gas if it was getting spark it should start. All my plugs smell
like gas. |

Suggestion
Ok so if you were In My situation what would your next step be? How would you check for spark? If plugs are indeed fouled which they are I should still get spark. I just don’t get why car ran fine and now it doesn’t just from changing that sensor makes no sense to me unless the plug it self was on its way out! And when I replaced the sensor it ended the cam position sensors pigtail. Thanks

cam sensor
41 is the cam sensor, check to see if the magnet is still behind the sensor. If the magnet is absent, there is a hack whereby it can be installed without taking off the timing cover.

I was going to let this go as you seem to be without any real experience and I don't teach in this kind of setting. Fouled plugs don't fire. That's why they are fouled. Several things that can foul them and over fueling is number one.
