Default How to remove a/c blower relay

1997 Bonneville SE. Blower does have power to it so I'm checking the different components. I started with the fuses and now I'm attempting to check the relay which I have accessed but I can't figure out how to get it out. It has locking tabs it appears, but they can't be accessed because of the fuse block above it. That block has one bolt at one end but that only loosens it but something is still holding it at the other end. I'm stuck so will someone please help?

Moved from 1992-1999 in the old Pontiac Bonneville section to the current Pontiac section.

Are you talking about the relay/fuse center just under the hood at the top of the firewall?

If you have power at the blower, the relay is probably okay.

What is the original problem that you're trying to diagnose?

Yes, that'* where I am. There is no power to the motor wiring connector at the motor. Recently the blower motor stopped working on all speed settings. I've checked the fuses under the driver'* side dash fuse block and the 30amp fuse located just above the relay at the relay location on firewall. I'm not sure how to remove the relay. I'm hesitant to use force for fear of breaking things.

Gotcha. I was a bit hung up on this:

So it sounds like there'* a missing "not" in that sentence.

Good news! I have one just like it to fiddle with here that I've gotten relays out of before . . . it'* just been a while and I don't remember any big difficulty. Standby . . .

You say, 'Blower does have power to it so I'm checking the different components.' Why are you checking the things that must be working for you to have power there. Maybe you are missing the ground...

Sorry, I'm losing it today. I meant to say that it does not have power. I made that same mistake with CathedralCub even after he questioned me on it.

Sorry for the delay.

Here you go:

Where my little red line is, use a little flat-blade screwdriver to push the tab down a little, and then pull the relay out at the same time. It should slide out easily on the tab that it lives on.

Before you reinstall the relay, make sure the tab is up a little like in the picture. You can pry it up a little with the screwdriver. It only needs to be as high as in the picture.

I get it. Super photo details. I would have never figured that out. Thanks a bunch for taking the time and effort to help me out,

Russell
