Default GP and the Series III

Hey guys,

A couple buddies of mine are interested in getting new vehicles and have come to me asking for suggestions. Since I'm in love with the 3800 motor, I gladly suggested any car with the 3800 and said GP, bonneville, Impala, etc. I sent them to do a little looking and said to get back to me with what you find.

Oddly enough, they both found GP, one a 2004 and the other a 2005 with the series III motor. My question was do they still have the LIM problem as the series II? Both cars are just under 100,000 miles, and i certainly dont want to direct them into anything with a large repair....I just did the LIM on my Bonneville, but am quite busy coming up and wont be able to do it for them..so kinda looking out for both of us here.

So if anyone has the newer GP with any suggestions, please post!!! I sure see a lot around, and with the 3800 im assuming its very reliable and good on MPG!!!

Thanks!

Have them look at where the LIM meets the head. Aluminum color means good, black means....the gasket should be replaced at some point.

If you don't have time, I'm in Enfield CT and can do one in about 2-3 hours. Heck..could do both in one day if they both came out together. I'd give them a good deal.

Most of the time, the LIM gaskets, even though they seep a bit, don't fail completely. It'* the UIM that is more likely to fail if it'* a NA engine.

Have either of you ripped the Series III apart to see what the stock gaskets were made of? Any word if GM made the necessary changes to the Series III that was never corrected to the Series II?
