Default falling out of gear

i have a friend with a 2000 sunfire with the 3speed and its fall out of gear. last tuesday i dropped the pan and changed the filter and fulid. the fluid was very bad, but the changed made it shift alot smoother and didnt slip anymore. it fell out of gear about 3 times before change then again tonight. she can put it in park then to drive and it will work again. im going to look at it later tonight, ill check fluid(there were no leaks)and take it for a spin. she drives this car pretty hard, and has ,143000 miles. what could this be ? maybe a solinoid.

thanks

If she had a fluid flush about a year ago, and you say it was very bad a year later. Then it'* a good chance the trans is dieing. If the fluid is burning, then you need to ask why? Slipping clutches could be the cause.

Doing a trans swap is a rather straight forward job. Support the engine and drop the trans out the bottom. Just pull the sub frame and it'* not to hard.

As a last resort you might try a bottle of Lucas stop slip. It seems to work wonders.
