Default 2003 grand am used engine is different!

Hey all.

2003 Grand Am 4.3

I am replacing this motor for a friend, and her son who works at a salvage yard provided me with a motor. He never said what year, but its identical except for one thing.

this motor has 2 additional (EGR possibly?) rails, one on the front and one on the back, each with its own valve attached to it. They has 2 spots on each rail where they tap into the head. it is looked above the exhaust manifold and runs the length of the motor on each bank.

What i am wondering is this a CA emission motor? and if so can I do anything to make it work. I assume you might be able to just plug the holes in the head and remove the rails, but i want some advice before I replace the intake gasket and drop the motor back in

Is this a 2.3 or a Chevy 4.3 engine you are talking about?

It is a grand am. If its the original motor that came in it it must be a 3.4.

That year car came with a 2.2 or a 3.4. My manual has nothing about having 2 EGR on the engine. But if for some reason it does, you can simply block it off. Might cause a problem with a SES light.

Hmm, reading it again, that sounds like the fuel rails.

Guys,
after doing a little research and parts # cross referencing. looks like this is an air injection system thats on this motor. Im pretty sure i can remove everything and block off the holes. just wanted a second opinion.
