Default 2001 Grand Am Radiator Replacement

2001 Grand AM with 3.4L. Does anyone know if it is really necessary to discharge & disconnect the AC system in order to replace the radiator? That is what is says in the Haynes manual, but I'd like to avoid it if possible. New rad looks like it has connections for the transmission oil cooler, but nothing that looks like it is integrated with the AC condensor.
