Default Who makes a Bigger Belt Tensioner Pulley?

Since the belt tensioner pulley'* bearing for My */c is on its last leg.. I thought I"d call around the good ol Canada places and they all want basically $180+ CAD for it !! I'm assuming they only sell the unit alone cause I went and asked for the pulley alone and everyone keeps showing me the wrong pulley.

so I was thinkin, if I'm going to fork out that much.. how much would a bigger Belt tensioner pulley be for when I decide to run the 3.4" */C pulley at a later date? If its not goin to be that much more.. I might save up and do that instead.

Bill.. I think you're the one that mentioned that before.

The oversized idler pulley from ZZP is a fraction of 180. A small fraction.

Here ya go:

The GM part number is posted somewhere in Vendors or Forced Induction, and Pulley Boys sells them for less than ZZP

Strange.. maybe mine was never the same pulley for the tensioner then? According to the pulley boys oversized idler pulley.. it has a rounded edge on one side. Mine has a rib that sticks out on both sides * I guess to keep the belt centered and secure on the pulley * Mine basically looks like the */C kind pulley with no center ribs.

Or it could be just flat completely.. I will check the evening

The tensioner pullies are 76mm, the ribbed idler for the SC is 76mm, the flat idler is 90mm (84mm for the GPs).

I've looked at using an oversized tensioner on the SC but it won't work because the angle of the ICM/Coil bracket are almost horizontal, unlike the GPs. GP owners often switch to the Bonneville tensioner assembly to get better belt wrap around the pulley.

Anyway, if you're going from a 3.8" SC pulley to a 3.4" you can use the same belt.

Cheers,

Thanx Foggy..

I will check that out with a trusty ruler I guess later on tonight also

EDIT: So if I pick up a stock size tensioner pulley.. I can still use the same belt and tensioner for when I switch to a 3.4" */C pulley? Kewl

It looks like this

but Pulley Boys says it looks like this
http://www.pulleyboys.com/gm_idler.html

I have seen from other part source that has a similar pulley.. but made of metal stead of plastic but the edges are a lil more rounded then the pics on pulley boys website.

Most people prefer the steel replacement pullies over the stock plastic ones. Just go to Canadian Tire and buy the steel Dayco pullies they sell for $21.

I might do that.. thanks Fog. I'm just going to measure how wide the belt is and to ensure that the metal one won't have the belt overhang on its' rounded corner.. and to make sure it'* the exact size.
