Just a 'lil FYI: http://www.ftc.gov/opa/1997/07/slick.htm :
"Three subsidiaries of Quaker State Corp. have agreed to settle Federal Trade Commission charges that ads for Quaker State'* Slick 50 Engine Treatment were false and unsubstantiated"
"The FTC complaint also charged that Slick 50 lacked substantiation for advertising claims that, compared to motor oil alone, the product:

--reduces engine wear;

--reduces engine wear by more than 50%;

--reduces engine wear by up to 50%;

--reduces engine wear at start-up;

--extends the duration of engine life;

--lowers engine temperatures;

--reduces toxic emissions;

--increases gas mileage; and

--increases horsepower.

AS for the T-stat with MPG.. I notice it drops just a tad.. not really noticeable unless it'* by the whole tank and it ain't that much.. right now with the cold winter coming.. I notice a major drop in MPG.. but with cold weather the car runs richer.. ( and proves Dr.Jay'* point that IAT and MAF along with a few others control the MPG more then just a T-stat )

FYI
Bout oil Additive

lol but Resident Gearhead is so catchy

The major portion of your MPG change in the winter is due to the oxygenated fuel they use in the winter. It produces less power per lb so the engine needs more of it. For some reason in the winter they get itchy about emissions though. EPA estimates a 3mpg drop IIRC
