Default Track tires/rims

People who have a set of slicks for the track. What type of rim do you use? Especially, what type of tire? Do you use wider sized tires? Lightweight rims?

I may want to get a pair for the track before next summer and see what kind of times we can get in

mickey thompson et drag slicks
20.0/8.0-14=8" tread 64" circ.
22.0/8.0-15=8" tread 70" circ.
stock 235/55-17 86"circ
short tire gives you more gear at the track.
tall tire, better gas mi. on the street

On the GTP we run stock 16" 5 spoke grand prix rims and 26X10.5X16 Mickey Thompson ET Streets and pull high 1.7 and low 1.8 60'* all day long. These should fit fine on an SSEi and should also give you a little shorter gearing, which will be an advantage at the track because the tires will be 1" shorter.

i also have a 2000 ssei, love the car!!!
but the the 60' times of 2.238 suck! thats the best ive got so far
also go through the lites in 2nd gear at 96.248.
going from a 27" to a 22"or a 24" tall tire is a big jump and will make
your car use most of 3rd gear at the track.

I know I would prolly run 15" alluminum rims for the weight and obviously the 15" rim is better for the track in my opinion..

How tall are your tires? Just curious because you said your going through the lights in second gear.

What is your SSEi reving when it goes through the traps in 2nd gear? Even with the tall tires, that seems wierd to me.

I agree that you don't want to go to a 22 or 24" tall tire, as it will cause you to use a bit of 3rd gear, not most of it like you said, but some of it. IMHO 26" tall tires is just about perfect for these cars at the track. A 16" rim won't weigh too much, especially if you get a lightweight aluminum wheel, and it should definately be lighter than the stock 17" wheels that come factory. I'm not even sure that a 15" wheel will fit over the large front brakes on the SSEi, so I think I would definately go with a 16" wheel. Your car is going to be faster if you can continue to have it only use first and 2nd and not shift to 3rd, so maybe you want to go with a tire the same height or maybe taller. Once you get to the point of shifting into 3rd gear, you are going to have to be making power to get through that gear to gain much since it is SOOO long. I don't know how serious you want to get, so I really don't know what to recommend. So let me ask you, how serious do you plan on getting with your SSEi?

rpm at the lights is about 6000 in 2nd
hey shawn do you still have the stock front mount
( its huge 4 1/2 " and soft ) we went to a fabricated mount
and the motor will not move more than 1/2" now.
i want to try a set of 22.0/8.0-15 no sense having 4 gears
and not use them !
