Thermostat Question
 

I was just wonder if a Series 2 160 Degree thermostat will work with my 94 S1 SSEI car. ( I was looking at Intense Racing and saw that it was a S2 one that they sold) If not where can I buy a 160 for my car??

First of all, yes, the one at INTENSE will fit your car.

But I'd caution you that is WAY too cold. Trust me. Even with a 10% underdrive WP pulley, the 160 is far from what I'd consider for a DD. In fact, in order to run it in SUMMER, I had to hotwire an Estat into the PCM to trick it into not flooding my car out.

A drilled 180 is the best choice for most cars here, including my SSEi for daily driving. The 160 will foul your plugs faster than it takes to drink a 24oz beer.

Even with the extreme setup on the Zilla, I'm considering going back to a 180. And I have it sitting right here, freshly shipped from INTENSE for that purpose.

Hmm I guess I will re-think the 160 T-Stat, I know I used to run one in my acclaim and it made a world of difference, I also run one in my buick but thats a whole different ball park. Then again the electronics are way more sofisticated on the bonneville. So a 160 stat is not up to proper operating temperature on these cars then (what the computer thinks that is). I dont want to be flooding it also.

Run an INTENSE 180, and drill two 1/16" diameter holes. ;)

Allright I got the 180 in today and hopefully I will have some time this weekend to install it. I was wondering on average. What should the temperature gauge read after I install the 180. I have a metric guage (I think celcius) It reads about dead smack in the middle right now 90 I think, with the stat that is in there. As far as I know its the factory one because it has never been changed and we have owned the car since late 94.

I'm going to be giving my 94 SSE a tune-up soon, so why would I want a new 180 T-Stat vs. my current one, probably stock with the higher temp? My temp gage is consistently around 205+ on most days during freeway and street driving.

Is the 180F lower temp for a more efficient set-up of the engine? Better gas mileage? :?:

Im not an expert on this but I think that the lower stat will actualy effect your gas millage the other way. It should make it a little worse. But it makes the engine run cooler and on my motor it takes away the KR :D
