Yea, i guess you are right.... Because i did a 1998 Grand prix L67 swap before doing chads in his bonneville with a team (as for team, there was badnit taking pictures, randy drinking beer, pat was updating on here, Bill was bitching about badnit taking pictures and that we werent done yet, i was drinking beer and supervising and chad (my brother) was doing the work since it was his car). And have done 2 more since then (both in grand prixs though).

I have now done 3 L67 swaps and numerous motor and tranny swaps. It is not really as hard as you are making it sound. Atleast i dont feel it is.

I recently sold a dropout out a grand prix to a kid in vermont(abotu a month ago now) and literally talked him throught the swap OVER THE PHONE. He had, i would say (no offense to him) no experience of these cars at all or just about any car. I had to explain EVERYTHING. Where the down pipe was, where the power steering pump was ect ect. Took him about 3-4 hours to get the motor and tranny out, and about half that to get it back in and running.

I believe all he needed was

7mm
13mm
15mm
17mm
18mm
Axel nut (32 mm)
Ball joint popper

And i believe that was it. (i am sure there were a few more little things but not much)

Some people find mechanical things like this hard, others can breeze through it. As for me, it will happen (*/C engine swap) but yeah, I'll admit it, I'm a little scared cause I have no idea, but I can't count how many times I've done something for the first time and went "wow, that wasn't so bad after all, now I can do this without thinking twice". I am making sure I have knowledgeable people around me when I have a go at this, and of course be ready for something bad to happen


As far as your original question, I already answered it before, you can't throw a Supercharger on a normally aspirated 3800, the internals are different and it just won't hold up to it. A motor swap is not the way to go especially IF you don't have the car yet, just go buy an SSEi.

Coercing someone with unkown knowledge or skills into a project like this is just pure crap. You should know better of all people.

Obviously, you're a much more accomplished mechanic than most here, especially with a team.

I was just reading the topic heading again. "IS IT EZ?", no it isn't easy. Difficult, maybe not that hard if you have ever done mechanical stuff. Time consuming, definately. Stress you out of your gord, oh yeah. So if the author would state their experience then it would help the topic out. But I think that the major topic was asking if you could just strap on a supercharger to a N/A 3800 which can't happen without a lot of other work also.

The guy i talked through, it was his first time

I know what you are saying, and it is not easy, not at all. But almost any modding is not going to be easy. Maybe doing an intake. But i mean even plugs take a little work.


Anyways since this isnt my thread i will leave well enough alone. I will say it isnt easy, but it is possible. You have to ask yourself what you truely want, and just go that route.

Let me ask a ? here. Has anyone here ever added a */C to a N/A engine? just to see what happens. Cause Ive heard a bunch of times that the engine wont be able to take the abuse, but the if the */C fits it would be interesting to see what happens.

ZZP sells parts for an M90 conversion. It'* a bit more expensive than the budget.

Supercharging an L36 will actually turn out a more powerful engine than a stock supercharged S2 L67. Don't remember why, but it'* been said more than once. And there are a few people who have done it.

That being said, it'* still preferable to just do a swap, if you want to go supercharged. And if you don't want to buy another car that is already supercharged.

because the L36 has higher compression. top swaps are common on clubgp.

bottom line is, the author wanted to save money by supercharging a N/A car... that most likely won't happen. it will be cheaper to buy an SSEi

Well it isn't as easy as putting the */C on in a top swap. You are also replacing the heads and a whole slew of other things. It is a way to go, but requires just about as much work as an entire engine swap and possibly more mechanical abilities than just an engine swap.

The comment a few replies up about just sticking on on and seeing what happens also isn't just that easy since it doesn't really match up that well. Still have to replace a whole bunch of different parts just to get it to match up. That'* before you get into the reasons why it won't hold up. It has been done. That'* why they know it doesn't work. Otherwise everyone would be doing it. I did a lot of research before attempting to do mine and looked at all the options long before being a member here. So the data is out there. I just haven't looked for it in a while but might be able to find with some searching.
