I just bought a bonneville 03 SE last week so I am new to the whole world of performance parts for this car.

I have seen that the SSEi has a supercharger and from the looks of it seems to be the same 3.8L engine, so my question is: Can I supercharge my 03 SE using a SSEi supercharger?

If yes what exactly do I need to do or get? Any estimates on labor costs?

Take a look at that link, it pretty much tells you all you need to know about the topic.

That links needs to be updated, it is pretty out of date. Many people have done the L67 top swap.

It'* not a simple answer and there are a couple different directions. It'* not just a slap it on issue at all.

The base differences between the two motors are:

1. Compression ratio (9.4:1 for yours, 8.5:1 for the L67)
2. Lower Intake Manifold
3. Pistons and rods
4. Cylinder heads
5. Fuel rail and injectors
6. Axles
7. Transmission
8. PCM
9. A handful of smaller items as well


From a reliability standpoint, the best route to go (and probably financially as well) is to simply do a full swap of the entire drivetrain. Engine, Trans, Axles, PCM.

None of the options are 'cheap' or easy by any stretch of the imagination. So let'* get an idea of your budget and your skill level before we go further.

wow! Thats sort of what I expected!

I had no idea they had a different compression ratio/transaxle etc....ok bolt ons! theres gotta be someone out there making pulleys n such. I took a quick glimpse at the pulleys on my engine...they look they are quite heavy! Any options on that?

I am not looking to take this baby to the track. Just looking for some extra HP for some extra fun. Just wanna be able to beat some of my buddies. Do you think beating a 93 civic hatch with a Type R engine swap is realistic with this car?

As far as skill level I used to be big on Forced Induction. Used to have a escort ZX2 turboed at 9 PSI on stock internals :o . I am not a street mechanic but can do most mods if the right tool is available.
