For a car a turbo wouldnt be as good as a supercharger, with a turbo you have a lag because you need to rev up the engine to get exhaust gases to exit faster and to get more pressure to turn the turbo which speeds up the air going into the intake, so for accel its very bad unless you have the ability to pop the clutch at 3k but a supercharger runs with your other stuff (a/c compresser. altator. ect) they hog power from the engine because it takes abit of force to turn the pullys on some of those. on newer cars if you turn the wheel (using your powersteering pump) the computer will tell the a/c compresser to turn off
This is untrue. Ever seen Grand Nationals run at the track? They brake-boost their cars so that the turbo can spool. They don't have too many problems getting that boost off the line. Plus, thats why I recommended twin turbos. If you free up the exhaust, they will spool in such a way that it feels like you have a big V8 under the hood. If you don't believe me, come visit and I will take you for a ride in my AWD Twin Turbo highly modified stealth.

I know a guy with this setup. He has a 2000 camaro with twin turbos... He is only pushing 7lbs of boost and makes about 450hp to the wheels. The problem with putting twin turbos on an LS1 is that the bottom end of the engine is not built enough to handle any more then said 450hp... It will start throwing bearings, or worse yet, just launching a connecting rod through the oil pan. With his current setup, and a stronger bottom end, he could EASILY make 700hp to the wheels by upping the boost to 16psi. This is the thing to remember. MOST domestic engines are not built to handle double their stock HP. Boosted engines are different, but N/A engines are just not built for serious power.

In terms of pricing... You can get a twin turbo setup for around $7K with EVERYTHING. Just bolt it in and go. You want a lower end for the engine, you are talking another $5K easy. This is if you do the work yourself.

But, in terms of picking the right car... Let me put it this way. The stealth I am modifying makes 450hp (300 stock) with about $500 worth of mods. I bought the car for $1500, put in an engine for $3000, and put another $500 worth of mods in it, and it runs high 11'* with stock tires... But, also figure, it is AWD and a twin turbo. Also, it is GUTTED. By gutted, I mean it has a steering wheel, a seat and a shifter. THATS IT. No dash, no carpetting, no A/C, no heat, no radio, nothing. My next project, starting next year will maybe be a turbo Northstar in a H-body. It all depends how crazy I plan on being. If its not that, then it will be an AWD, twin turbo LS1, 1970 Pontiac GTO.

Don't forget intercoolers. If you run a turbo it'* just wasted power if you dont intercool it. Ever see an exhaust manifold melt?

Those kits come with intercoolers. Plus, you can more or less run 5lbs of boost without an intercooler without much of a problem. And, the intercooler has NOTHING to do with the exhaust manifolds, but yes... Those exhaust manifolds need to be the HIGHEST grade steel, because they get real hot and will melt / break if they are not as such

reminds me of the Lingenfelter Vette engine video i saw. They have it at their website, shows a 427 CID v8 for a lingenfelter vette doing a dyno test (engine only) and at full RPMs the headers get red hot and suddenly the engine drops RPMS to idle... gee i wonder why?
