The Techinfo article listed above is still valid.
A FULL SWAP is far more cost and time-effective than a conversion. But better than that is STILL:
SELL THE SLE. Buy an SSEi. From a cost and practicality standpoint, it'* by far the most reasonable option. And you gain more than boost.

from my understanding there is lots of potential in the L36 staying N/A. (head work, and valve train work.) I believe Big_News_1 (Ben) has done this type of work.
But you will need cash, maybe not as much as doing a turbo, or bolting a SC and having to work on the tranny.
the path you choose is up to you, as SCing IS possible, but it is not the best option for power- best option is to buy a SSEi or a SC SLE.

Unless its gutted, the cobalts are right at 3000 lbs. 400 lbs lighter than his car. either way I say get a 97+ ssei, they can be had for under $4000 with $500 in mods you can pwn the cobalt

With a base top swap costing ~$1800 installed and a base turbo ~$3000 installed, you decide.
As far as "creature" comforts in the Bonne levels I dont know. GPGT guys top swap all the time, and they have the same comforts as a GTP owner, and the TS'ed L36 will walk all over the L67.
As far as dependability in the trans, assuming you have a healthy trans to begin with, you will see no problems. Unless you drive like a fool. The only issue with the non-HD trans is the diff being smaller.
As for the 4t60 guys, you will see problems. Granted some are doing quite well, but to me its just a time bomb.
