Default Starting stock, some idea of what to do... Pointers?

I've got a stock 1997 'Ville SE, low miles, awesome condition. I'd like to start playing with it but not to a crazy extent, as it'* going to remain my daily driver.

After lurking here for quite some time I've come to the conclusion that there are a couple more common mods to get a little more go-juice on the 'Ville without "significant" changes:

- Pulleys
- CAI
- Exhaust

I'd like some tips as to what particular items you guys/girls reccommend as well as the order in which I should approach this - e.g. high-flow cat, then intake, then pulleys, or whatever.

ATM I'd like solutions that don't require large recursive modifications (example, To do A, you first need to install B, which is a major modification like a tranny).

Thanks!

its pretty much a general knowledge that a CAI should be done before pulley work. However, exhaust is not quite as important and could wait till after if your funds are short, however if your gonna do it anyways you might as well do it before the pulley. I have the same ideas as you do....meaning im not gonna go past the 3 things you mentioned. Good luck with anything you do.

Does your SE have a Supercharger? That is where the pulley comes in handy. Before you do anything to it, perform a tuneup on it. If it hasnt had one for a while, you will be surprised how much "go" you can gain back by doing the mandatory stuff. Probably be a good idea to flush out your radiator and maybe your tranny fluid also. If you do the intake soon, make sure it is not sucking in to much hot air because Summer is approaching us quite fast and the engine does not cool down as fast compared to the winter months (obviously). You could do intake, exhaust, then new PCM and that would not require any mods to the tranny and would give you a nice little boost!

There aren't any underdrive pulley sets that will gain you anything. Here'* my recommendation for a series II n/a.

CAI
Either High flow cat or muffler
Chip
The remaining exhaust piece
P&P Heads, TB
Rockers or cam
LSD
headers/p&p manifolds
Major tranny work.
turbo or CSC

Good call, although im not sure i would have the cat or muffler before the headers/pandp manifolds. Your bottle neck will be there for sure, especially if you do the rockers or cam. Your best bang for the buck is going to be cai with cam with pcm with headers. Followed by a tranny when you break yours
