Shift Kit.
I'm gonna have to agree with will on this one. I said I wasn't totally clear on what was done to his trans. A PCM will absolutely NOT make up for what a shift kit can do. The only thing that a PCM reprogram can control is only about 4 things within the trans. I'm listing them from the 4T65-E Technician'* Guide again. Here they are: Pressure Control Solenoid, which would account for the higher line pressure, 1-2 Shift solenoid valve (harder 1-2 shifts), 2-3 Shift solenoid (same as before, only applied to 2-3 shift), and the TCC (Tourque Converter Clutch) Solenoid Valve. Those components previously listed are the outputs that the PCM controls after gathering data from things like The TFT (Trans Fluid Temp) sensor and TFP (Trans Fluid Pressure) switch, among many others that I'm too lazy to list. The rest of the operation is solely mechanical and hydraulic, meaning that a shift kit will (as stated by willwren) work wonders.
As for the one brand of shift kit, I know that is only one brand, and I don't think that B&M makes a shift kit for our trannies anyway. I was just citing B&M as an example, because a lot of people think of B&M when they think of a shift kit. Back on topic now...

Just so everyone knows this, it is a brand new, never been opened Intense Shift Kit. That way theres no confusion on the number of parts Im getting
Rogue should beable to testify to this products effectiveness.

I couldn't begin to compare my shift kit to the INTENSE kit, as I have the 4T60. I'm assuming you mean this one:
http://www.intense-racing.com/Mercha...ategory_Code=T
I'd also suggest updating some of the solonoids (particularly the TCC solonoid) at the same time. Mine was upgraded to a much more efficient solonoid and seat during my shift kit install.
Solonoids can be found here:
http://www.intense-racing.com/Mercha...ategory_Code=T
The INTENSE kit looks to be more complete (and involved) than the Thrasher kit for comparison.
My 4T60 kit had alot more parts in it, but many of them were updates figured out over the years. The installation booklet (bible) that came with mine was very detailed, with one step per page (you can install or choose not to many different 'parts' of the kit). For instance, you can NOT upgrade the firm TCC lockup if you don't want it. Most don't. It'* rather abrupt. I like it.
Alot of similarities, but some differences too between the 4T60 and the 4T65. The 65 was built from the factory with the lessons learned from the 4T60.

Bill, when your car is warmed up, when it shifts into third gear say at half throttle..isnt that shift awesome, i find its amazing going from 2500 to 1500 into third and actually feeling a firm *** shift heheh
Since my shift kit, the 2-3 shift at half throttle is firmer than the stock 1-2 shift at WOT.
TCC lockup happens at about 50-51 mph now instead of the traditional 48, but it'* now firmer than the 1-2 stock shift at WOT used to be.
Downshifts are quicker, faster, and more assured.

Actually the Intense kit any more complicated that the Thrasher (Intense includes filter and gasket IIRC).
Also You may not want to take on the job of changing solenoids on your own. That requires alot more work and knowledge of the tranny (as it is in the valve body) and you will be working right under the pan to install the Intense one.
I will agree that solenoids is always a good idea, but like I said I requires a lot more knowledge.

Comparing the kits on Thrasher'* site and INTENSE'*, it appears that Thrasher is using the off-the-shelf TransGo kit, where INTENSE has set theirs up a bit differently. If the pics on the two websites are any indication, the INTENSE kit has more parts.
The Intense shift kit uses new springs for the accumulators. If there is a very small green spring that fits in the very middle, just big enough to slide over the accumulator pin, do NOT use it. It is not a compresssion spring, but an extension spring. This is used as a spacer to limit accumulator travel. However, it is too small OD and will pinch the accumulator piston where is rides on the pin. This will cause the piston to stick and result in a loss of line pressure after the shift. I have seen this on two different kits as installed in -65s.
Replace these little green springs with the smallest ID bolt washers you can get to slide over the accumulator pin, should be 1/4" or maybe #10 or #12 machine screw washers. Stack the washers until the height of the green spring is matched or slightly taller (for firmer shift) or shorter (for softer shift). The washers need to fit inside the other accumulator springs as assembled in the accumulator bore, so trial fit everything on the bench first.
LMK if you need any help.

What I need to know is can the Thrasher Shift Kit be installed by dropping the pan alone? Does the whole tranny need to be dropped too? My mechanic fears that the whole tranny needs to be dropped and that can be a lot of work. Can anyone please verifiy this? Thanks.
