hey guys im new here and im planning on building a hot rod with my wrecked buick lesabre. ive searched and searched but cant find any answers. the minute i do find an answer i go to another site and its something different. so anyway here goes. its got a good running 3800 sc that was rebuilt with about 20,000 on rebuild. i acquired a 5 speed from a 2000 s10 2.2l that i was told will work with that motor. but other sites have said it will not. also what am i gonna need to do about flywheel and clutch setup? sorry for all the questions just trying to figure all this out. any help would be appreciated thank u

what alot of people really have trouble with is the throttle body placement, clearance to firewall, not sure what type of body you are swapping it to.

according to that they are the same but its not a very strong trans so if you intend on putting through some abuse i dont think i would spend very much effort or money going that way. as far as the clutch since no sc3800 that i know of came with a manual you are going to see if you can adapt a 2.2 clutch and flywheel to the engine. didnt see anything about that in a quick google. so depends alot on the intended application and how you are going to use it

Yea ive been googling for a week lol with no luck. The fire wall clearance isnt an issue. The truck will weigh maybe 2000lb and just a cruiser maybe a burnout or 2 lol. I think ive got the flywheel part figured out but not sure on clutch yet

if you get a clutch and flywheel for the 2.2 you might be able to put it on the 3800 depends what the flange bolt pattern is, might just be drilling some holes. another consideration would be the pilot bearing diameter something custom might have to be done there, have to take some measurements.

The clutch and flywheel should work off of a 3.8 firebird or Camero shouldn't it?

Personally I would look for a 4l60e out of a 2.2 *-10. It'* a durable transmission and could handle the power of a supercharged 3.8.

Sorry to get off tracked, but how/what kind of rear end are you using?

i know the flywheel off a 3800 camaro will work but from what ive read has to be rebalanced to match the flexplate from the automatic.

i was looking for a automatic but i came across the 5 speed for 100 bucks and personally sticks r more fun. but i am worried about the strength of the nv1500 vs the 4l60e.

its gonna be all setup on a s10 chassis with a s10 7.5 10 bolt...

when i get this transmission issue figured out then im gonna start building and i will definatly share photos with you guys. thanks again

the clutch from a t5 fbody might work but it may be big, not really sure. has to be stronger to handle the power. the smaller nv1500 clutch may be a good fuse.

the 4l60 may work with a modified pcm program from a 3800/auto fbody but dont know if the plugs would be the same, you might have to do some signal chasing and splicing plugs. a 700r4 would get you the same od with out electronics, and both would be about the same cost to rebuild to handle moderate abuse. just not sure about the bolt pattern the 6 in the 80s fbodies, it was the 2.8. they had carb and efi 3.8'* in the other cars but dont know if thats the same pattern
