Default S2 Catalytic Swap Question

Anyone been told there'* any issue welding a new 2.5" in/outlet cat onto their car? Mechanic Dan called, said there isn't enough room between the flange and the cat to cut the pipe and weld it in.

I figure I'll stop off at the local exhaust shop tonight and see about a flange/welding the cat in.

Lol.... I just had the same issue last week when I had my new Magnaflow installed. In my case they cut the flange off downpipe and welded the cat to the bottom of the downpipe, then connected the cat to the rest of the exhaust using a clamp. I wasn't particularly happy with this decision, but they did it without asking me. At least I can still drop the rest of the exhaust by loosening the clamp behind the converter.

Worked for me. Well, actually the guy at the exaust shop said he had to widen the inlet a little to get in on.
