Resonator? Or No Resonator?
I liked the sound when I had mine off but I put it back on because at highway speeds it would get really bassy and give me a headache. I might put the stock mufflers back on just because it seems no matter what you do to these engines they'll just be half v8 half I4 mutants.
I was refering to how hard it is to get these motors to sound good. I hope that saying that made you feel smarter because it didn't do anyone else any good. Anyways, your sound without a resonator depends alot on what muffler(*) you run.
18" long 2.5" diameter Magnaflow resonator with a Magnaflow high flow cat and a Thrush glass pack.... Not mine...
2.5" pipe all the way back.

18" Magnaflow resonator? Get back, Rookie.
Mine is a 24" Magnaflow resonator. It was a trick to get it to fit in the intermediate pipe between the cat and the big bend. But WELL worth the effort.

This depends on how much of the exhaust you're replacing IMO. If its just from the muffler(*) back then of course keep it, but if you're going cat-back then I personally would just say screw it and remove it all. I tend to go cheap by not buying a new resonator for such a project. However on the '98 I had headers with a Magnaflow cat, then skipped everything back until the tips, which were some oval Maganflows. It provided a nice deep performance tone with no raspy sound.
