removed MAF screen and gutted air box

the check engine light has been on ever since i took the MAF screen out...... i cant really tell if it helped or hurt the performance... i have a stock intake system.......bends once.. has a KN filter... prolly thinkin about puttin the screen back in untill i get a intake system....
I've got the same problem on my 97 SSE... check engine light is on, idle a bit higher at 1100 RMP... runs good... gutted air box, but i cant really tell any difference, im gonna put it back on to shut my light off and get ready for the snowy winter ahead of me....

The GTP idles at 680rpms (according to the Autotap) with no screen, and the SSEi idles somewhere in the 800 range with no screen and stock throttle body, but that is probably because it still has the stock airbox. Never had any SES lights because of no screen in either car.
