Advantages of Centrifugal Superchargers?

Default Advantages of Centrifugal Superchargers?

I was curious what the advantages of running a centrifugal supercharger on a L36? I tried Searching for it but all the threads came up as old, probably outdated and posted by lunatics ( )

I figured a L36 would be a good match for the CSC because the L36 has a pretty good low-end and the CSC would boost the mid to upper powerband. Of course, assume the stock tranny has been converted to a -HD version. I also figured that when the tranny was converted, the gears would be steeper (3.29s) which could help the car be more preppy if it lost any low end grunt from the CSC.

Is there any other disadvantages or advantages?

The advantage is it'* simple and adaptive without extensive mods.

The disadvantage is its low boost, about 6 psi, but that should be more than enough to wake up an L36

.....and help to stay at least in sight in the rearview mirror of an SSEi. :P

I would go witht the SS M90 kit from zzp rather than the Centrifgal supercharger. The roots blower will give you instant power that the centrifgal one won't. Plus its cheaper :P

Well, the centrifugal supercharger comes in stages so it'* not like i'm restricted to a certain boost level.

I know that dbtk did a M90 SS conversion kit with good results but I'm just curious about the centrifugal superchargers.

i considered this for a while but after talking to matt (the guy who sells these), he said it would be alot of work because we do not have dog bones and that is what they use to hold these in place.

No... dbkt2 did a top-end swap. this consists of using L67 heads, LIM, SC, Fuel Rail, L67 pulley system. basically everything but the l36 short block is changed

I'm sure you could just fab up a bracket to hold it onto another existing mount. Saw one a few years ago at Midwest Grand Prix Meet, and everyone was going goo-goo ga-ga over it. It was sweet, but i'd do turbo.

CSC'* have a powerband like a turbo, but have parasitic loss like a normal supercharger. Frankly a turbo would be more power, more effeciency, and an easier install.

turbos have more efficiency per hp lost creating the boost. Not to mention that in low rpms their TQ curve is pretty much stock, so you could get away with leaving the tranny relatively stock if it is healthy. Obviously it will wear faster but nothing like if it were a SC
