Polishing is of limited benefit. If you have the time and patience, go for it. It can help reduce carbon (EGR/PCV) buildup over time.

ROUGHNESS is the key. That'* what my eyes see inside those runners. You want smooth, you don't NEED polished.

Not that I polish anything these days, but information I was given way back when tells me that polishing should be limited to 60 grit paper/flapwheels.

Has anything finer than 60 grit been known to cause problems? From what I have seen on LIM'*, the runners have the same texture as acoustic ceiling tile but I would still start off with 80 grit and work my way up to a 200 grit finish. just my 2cents
