This is true. I'll look tomorrow if it's not raining.
I'm not definatley gonna do this or plan on doing it soon. Just wanted to work out the idea and see how realistic it is. :D

If your 95 looks like a 94 underneath.....

The exhaust hangers are on the bumper mounts.
The fuel pump wiring/ELC stuff would have to be supported in some other fashion.
You should put a peice of 2" square tube across the rear suspension to regain strength.
You should also put a peice of tubing along the rear of the floor pan where ever you cut it close to the back seat.
I'm not sure if the fuel tank mounts to the rear susp or the floor pan, You may have to devise a system to mount it.

All in all doable, And safe IMHO as long as you dont cut the rear subframe.

Thanks!
Hmmm. now i have to look into materials

SLO92SE 12-09-2004 12:35 PM

use pop rivets and sealer, will look much better than bolts.

95naSTA 12-09-2004 04:05 PM

Yeah, i can get all kinds of rivits and a rivit gun off my friend. It probablt would look better.
I did take a look under there today and i'm a little weary about how the spare tire bucket hugs the subframe. This could potentially make my car alot less sturdy...........

if your going for it just go for it. Fuel cells are lighter than our gas tanks. gut the stock tank, gut the trunk then put a fuel cell in the trunk. Carbon fiber a new hood and trunk lid. pull up the carpet in the car. junk all the foam and the sound mat on the firewall and flor then reinstall the carpet. ditch the compressor for a air line fitting and only adjust the air ride at the gas station air pump. Carbon fiber gas lid or no lid at all. carbon fiber tail lights. Hart racing rims . dump the AC and the condenser. remove 1 wiper blade. change your windows to plexiglass. done. a few weeks worth of work but alot lighter. if your pockets arn't super deep, change the words carbon fiber with firerglass. And ditch the rear speakers.

while your at it drop a Series III from a new GP, hybrid M112 SC, intercooler, cam, rockers, headers, p&p heads, oil restricted pushrods, and put a stroked crank in it

you will run low 9's

HOLY CR@P!!!
did you notice that i don't even have enough money to put paint on my car
Lemme go through this

'Carbon fiber a new hood and trunk lid'
-I've definatley thought about it but those custom are big bills. I'm no where near that level when it comes to bodywork.
'Fuel cells are lighter than our gas tanks. gut the stock tank, gut the trunk then put a fuel cell in the trunk.'
-Hmmm never thought of a fuel cell. i'm definatley gonna look into that. And my trunk is as bare as they come.
'pull up the carpet in the car. junk all the foam and the sound mat on the firewall and flor then reinstall the carpet'
-I did that
'ditch the compressor for a air line fitting and only adjust the air ride at the gas station air pump.'
-My bonnie isn't that luxury, i've got an sle. :)
'Carbon fiber gas lid or no lid at all. carbon fiber tail lights. Hart racing rims'
- I do plan on shaving my gas door, i dunno about the tailights. And rims are last on my list of things to do since these are not that heavy.
'dump the AC and the condenser. remove 1 wiper blade. '
- I'm probably gonna get an a/c delete pulley or make one just to get rid of the compressor(35lbs) and keep my a/c in place for the hot summer days. And i only have one wiperblade because the rubber on the one started to fall apart.
'change your windows to plexiglass'
-Err i dunno that's taking a big step torwards trailer park race car.
'And ditch the rear speakers.'
- for the track definatley but that's one creature comfort i need.

Thanks alot for the ideas. You've got my mind working overtime on how to get this car closer to 3000 lbs.

aluminum and steel are a bad combonation. When aluminum is next to steel there is a phenominom called aluminum rot that occurs. Yes, it is just as bad as it sounds. You would need to have the aluminum and steel completly isolated frrom each other (not touching anywere). Probably not worth the effort.
