Ok, this is a little out there but,
What about cutting the crap out of the trunk bed and replacing it with a nice flat peice of aluminum sheet metal?
Be easy on me, i'm not familiar with welding. |
Aluminum is a lot harder to weld than steel. Sorry if you already knew that and I'm stating the obvious

Why not just remove excess weight. Sound deadening material, The interior...
Racing Buckets are a lot lighter then ours for example. |

I dis know that welding aluminum is harder but i wasn't sure if it would weld to steel.(something i could look up but i'm lazy)
The trunk floor is pretty big esp with the spare tire ditch. If you cut all that out and replace it with aluminum, that's gotta save some weight. Even better it's over the rear wheels. My trunk right now is bare metal with the seat foam poking out. I already removed all my carpet padding too. (hard to tell) I'm kinda weary of converting to racing buckets though. And i'm not trying to alter the interior that much at all cause it's noice! :D |

I'm not worried about tackyness when it comes to my trunk. :D My bike goes in there, that's about it.
Now does anyone know what's hooked up to the same metal underneath the car? |
I think an exhaust hanger (maybe) and a I think the fuel tank straps?? Depending on how far up you go....You'll have to crawl under there and look for your self, because we really don't know how much you wanna cut.
