I put straight pipe on my '86, with a carbed 3.8. I was actually suprised, it sounds like a V8. It doesn't sound that great at WOT but otherwise it'* really nice. I have 2" exhaust by the way.

I would definetly get a muffler, it wont reverb at all, and sount blatty and farty. Keep the stock pipe as much as you can, it'* mandrel bent, and you can't really do any better. Go spend $73 on a flowmaster or a little more on a magnaflow, and slapt it on with some tips. Can't go wrong!

i started my car w/ my muffler off when i was doing my flowmaster...sounded ok but im guessing it had nothing for balls cuz of no backpressure...if i were you id go w/ high flow cat and a aftermarket muffler...flowmaster or magnaflow or wahtever...

Straight pipes on a Bonneville is pretty pointless. I think it sounds cooler with the smooth sound of a muffler. The only cars that should be loud are the ones with the big mean engines
