The transmissions aren't exactly designed to handle the amount of power the engine has, and once mods are done..well..you get the point.
The stock PCM aka computer keeps the power from being put through the trans and tires spinning to save the transmission. An aftermarket PCM is a ton of fun and I'd love to do it. But like Cheetah..my trans is also higher mileage and running great.

The 1997 SSEi transmission is designed to handle right around 300hp. I doubt that the initial modifications that I listed above and the PCM addition would top that number, but with loads of miles, it'* always good to be safe. However, if you're young and stupid like me, and you like doing lots of burnouts in a high mileage car, you'll need a PCM.
