ok, first off where did you get the DHP. You can get the software off DHP'* website. I think its private right now, and if you know someone with a password you can get in and get the software.
Read all the tuning guides you can find. there is a recent thread in Clubgp about tuning basics in the PCM'* and Tuning section

Agreed, read everything you can before making actual tuning changes.
By tuning changes I mean air/fuel/trans parameters etc. Things like speedo or fan turn on are pretty intuitive and won't hurt the car (unless you adjust the fans to higher temps).

i read a guide for tuning a 99 GP GTP if i recall correctly and he said a wideband O2 sensor would be crucial to have, should i buy one, maybe the Bosch LSU4? because when i put pat'* old exhaust on i was thinking of upgrading to a magnaflow cat

ok, ive been checking it out, do i need to get the software package to monitor it? or can i just replace the stock NB sensor w/ the WB one and tune it through the PCM?

It depends on the DHP version you have. There should be analog ports to use for monitoring it. You need to leave the NB sensor for the PCM to use for fueling and tweak things from the WB info.
