Hey. I was just sitting in the car listening to the stereo and I decided to turn off the tunes and listen to the car.. I revved it up a bit and at 4 grand it bogged out.. then came back up.. then bogged out etc..... Is there a Rev limiter when in park?

Yes. Mine'* the same way.

My bro has a 90 F-bird without one...he'll ruin his engine soon.

After a few blown engines GM decided it might be a good idea to put one of these in. Sure beats needing a new engine.

Yes there is definately a rev limiter there. GM started putting them in in the late 80'* and early 90'* on some cars because of a lot of blown engines. The pushrod engine can't handle high revs, and revs high willingly, so right there you have a problem. The thing that pisses me off about it is that it is so low. Why couldn't it be 5,000? It is 3400 rpms on my '90 TGP, that is crazy. I think if you brake torque the car (brake and gas at the same time) so it sits still, it will hit the rev limiter at the same spot. I know it does on my TGP, I was trying to get the turbo working right, and it wouldn't build the kind of boost I wanted it to under 3000, and it only builds boost in gear so I put it in gear, revved to 3200 and it wasn't seeing the boost I wanted it to, so I hit the gas harder and it hit a limiter at the same 3400 rpms it hits it at in park. Maybe it was just for that car, but I found that odd, maybe someone could test that out on a Bonneville and see if it is the case.

i beleive its directly tied to the VSS so under a certian MPH/Kph, it will hit 4g otherwise above certain speed its 55-5900...

**edit** i have a day off tomorrow, i will test this theory

Mine is also 4,000 in P. And in gear at a red light with my brakes on, I rev sometimes, and also don't get near the rev limiter.

As far as my brother...Jr's3800, I wish YOU could talk some sense into him...lol. I've explained to him many times, but he'* a dumbass. He revs his car to at least 6,000 easy, in P., and thinks it'* "cool" it can do that. And it'* not a once in a while thing. He does it several times a week, and like 3 times each time he does it. He only has 69K miles on it, but I told him my engine will still last longer if he keeps it up.

It'* one of 600 F-birds of its kind made, and my dad would be pretty pissed if he fuct it up, since it was his at one point. But maybe I should not waste my breath and let him learn the hard way. :?

Sooner or later he'll kill it..... I think that F-Bird has a 5500 redline... Let him keep going to 6000 in park.... One day something will go boom... and it'll be a rod.... I take it your brother has a rare Firebird, I'd have more respect for it being that it was that rare and GM doesn't make firebirds anymore that would make me take care of it... On the same note, let me catch him on the road with my meager 3800 series II V6.... Show him what its all about Pete( that is your name right?)... those firebirds are good but those 2.8'* and 3.1'* weren't all that, or does he have a V8? If its a V8 than theres a lot of room for abuse
Yup, you got my name right Don. It'* pretty rare. 1990 Bandit II. (it'* on my cardomain page in the background somewhere) But it is only a 3.1 V6. I don't know why they didn't put a V8 in a Bandit, the 3.1 has 135hp! They should have given it a bigger engine. But yeah, I'm expecting him to blow something before the summer'* over.

A guy down the street from me has an 89 GTA...the big a$$ V8 in it. He parked next to my bro'* and revved it. Sounded awesome. But then my bro decided to rev his after the GTA peeled off....no comparison, sounded bad, plus he was at almost 6,000 by the sound of it. He will when he blows it.
