Default Intake mods for my bonneville.

Hello everyone,
I have been looking on Ebay and i see that there are some CAI'* on there for the bonneville. Will this gain me anything at all or is this just a false hope. I understand that the stock air box is not the greatest design but, Will i actually gain from a CAI?? Im going to post the auction here so that maybe someone can look at it and tell me if these are worth the cash. The price isnt the issue, They are cheap on Ebay. I emailed the guy selling these and he said there will be no more modifications needed to add this to my 92 bonneville SE. What'* everyone think?? My bonneville isnt a race car, i know this. I had a street/drag car ( 77 Pontiac Tans Am, 477 BBC, Nitrous, etc, etc ) Im just looking for anything to add some power and possibly added fuel milage but, I still want the most that i can get for power..Bad habits are hard to break...We have a new 1/8 mile track local now and i sold my TA years ago... I love the ride of my Bonneville but, Still want as much performance as i can get....

Thanks,
Sellincars

It is not a true CAI. If you buy it, then build a box around it and get a k&n filter to go with it, then it should work and not cause any problems with heat. You could always go with the ricer pipe from autozone like so many of us have done.

the "rice pipe" is an intake for a Honda that you can buy at autozone for like $40 and it will fit a bonnie with a little modification.

Why are these ebay intakes so cheap? it seems almost too good to be true! anyone with first hand experience with the intake linked to above? or this one?

The kit probably shares parts with other cars. Mass manufacturing lowers prices.

My Bonneville is a 1994 SSEi and i got around 40 h.p increase with a cold air intake, Well thats what the G-tech Pro said. I went from 85.7 in the 1/4 to 87.9. Went to a h.p. calculator and it said that was about 37 h.p. I kinda guessed that it increased so much was becasue in the supercharger being able to get so much more air. The factory air box in so restrictive. It was really easy to instale but kinda had a high price tag on it.. I will try to get some pics posted in here.

Yea, get some pics of your setup, soon. Is it all custom fabricated? Thats a lot of HP from a simple mod.

MAYBE if you swapped SC pulleys at the same time. Otherwise, no way. The Gtech'* are inherently inaccurate unless you spend ALOT of time with them, and have accurate weights, and perfect launches.

There'* no way a CAI can give more than CRANK hp by itself.

I agree, a CAI wouldnt give you much more then MAYBE 5 HP by itself. My guess is the weather was better for you on your second run... Either cooler, less moisture, or some other factor caused you to gain that extra oomph. FI cars are very suceptible to climate changes.
