Default intake hiss

has anyone who has put a heatshield on an open pipe had it quiet down the intake hiss at startup?

Mine muffles slightly, but not entirely. It'* not totally sealed, and the noise can still come out the headlight on the 92-99 cars. A 2000+ would be naturally quieter, just because of the construction.

i agree, its too loud, people are starting to ask if my car is ok. Ive also thought about doing a resonator-type thing with the pipe...But the heatshield will have to do for now. It does make something of a difference?

Well... What I think is making the noise is turbulence in the TB after the MAF housing... The best way to get rid of the sound would be to smooth the transition area of the TB, and of course overbore it to reduce the transition height... But it'* just a theory.

Haha yeah it does sound kind of like the car is overheated or something but when youre driving away it sounds nice and like its sucking in tons of air.

Try using something that will insulate sound like a soft bubble type insulation.

meh, you guys are looking at it from the wrong angle. i, too, have had a handful of people ask, "is something wrong with your car?" when i start it up. the best response is the truth! "nope, she'* running fine. that'* my custom intake you're hearing. want to see it?!" THAT'* the way around that problem.

but no, in all seriousness, would putting my MAF screen back on do anything to help? and by the way, how would a guy get a new screen? mine'* ever-so-slightly buggered up from when i pulled it.
