Technically yes the other sensor do adjust for timing advance, but in reality it is still keeping yur timing advance.

It is not something you want to run al the time, if you do it your just defeating the purpose. And your advance depends on what size resistor you put in , IIRC you can go up 4* with a 10k ohm. But 4* puts you in piston popping range.

Popping pistons is a pre-ignition/detonation/KR thing related to boost level, temp, and octane.

Doing the IAT trick won't prevent the knock sensors from working.

Timing does not advance based on cooler temps. Timing is retarded based on too hot of temps (at least in my 00 code). The only timing advance worth monitoring (in terms of these tests) is at WOT.

Yes I know that Rogue. The idea is to prevent knock or temp induced timing retard....effectively advancing it by as much as it would have been retarded at higher boost, higher temps, etc

I don't see that the engine knows what the temp of the charge is after the supercharger. It must interpolate it using other variables like IAT, MAP, MAF, O2, rpm, etc.......but if the IAT was fooled....
So if you were intercooling, how would it know how much cooling after the IAT sensor?
If you were cooling effectively but the IAT is detecting 100F readings, won't it retard the engine. :?:

Hey, I admit I don't know squat about the programming of our PCM'* but I'm really curious to understand.

Don had a 4 degree timing advance with the sensor disconnected, and repeated it a couple times. Disconnected, the IAT (in the PCM) defaulted to 60° compared to the actual 80° ambient.

I rest my case.

Was this checked at WOT or cruise?

It is my understanding that yes this would happen, but I don't remember at what temp timing is pulled and if I remember right it was a max of 1 degree at some really high heat.

The real solution to this is to add manual timing controls and select your timing advance.
