Default IAT Extenders

Is there any benefit to buying an IAT extending harness, as opposed to just splicing the wires, besides convience? I was going to just cut into the existing wires, strip a few ends, make some solder points, tape em up and call it a day. But I was looking around and found extenders. Are there any advantages/disadvantages to either method besides price and convience?
Also, does anyone know what gauge wire the IAT sensors use? Won't have access to wire strippers until later, and I want to pick up the wire on my way home tomorrow. Thanks for any help and advice.

Ditto. Splice. Soldering preferred, if you can't, then protect the splices as well as you can.

You believe wrong Grasshopper. It is super stuff. Not sticky at all. Has a backing you peel and still not sticky. Once it touches itself and especially if stretched it bonds to itself for a waterproof seal. Electrical tape is far from waterproof.

Is there a name to this magical product and a store that carries it?
