Dispatchers are just normal people.....9-5, go home after work. They are NOT law experts or resources for legal questions, even about motor vehicle regulations.

Ask a uniformed or sworn officer, or call your state department of motor vehicles.

Look online for your states specific laws. Any forward facing blue, red and white lights are reserved for law enforcement and emergency vehicles.

im michigan i know for a fact that its illegal to have anything other than amber or white parking lights/blinkers. i got pulled over for having green, nothing to do with emergency vehicle colors, they dont use green, they just wont allow anything other than amber or white, the green really tied the front end together. they also made me take out the green license plate lights shining onto the plate. how am i supposed to make car sweet with all these stupid laws preventing me from doin it. thats outrageous, a guy should be able to mod his car without police interference as long as its not mistaken for an emergency vehicle and everything is still visible.

Unfortunately, speaking from a law enforcement background, if you give the general public an inch, some of them will have to take the mile. You allow one odd color, then the people that demand red or blue lights will basically point at the guy with green and say "But his aren't amber or white..." Another case of the few stupid people ruining it for the rest of us.

Personally, I think I could have ignored green license plate lights, but it could also be a case of your city/county/state having a crackdown on odd coloered lights, for the reason stated above. Plus, if you think about it, it'* kinda like wearing gang colors in LA, and expecting the cops not to watch you. Street racers like funky colored lights, so...

Different colors make reading that color hard. If you have blue letters, and a blue light, you can't read them.
